A fun filled sail to Setubal

Mandy arrived back to Oseirus marina with Nick & Jen, we had a blowy, squeaky, rolly night in the marina and the next day went for a walk around Lisbon.

Lovely meal in a dead trendy bar.

We then left Oeiras marina, Lisbon and headed towards Setubal. The day started with the cook not tying a fender correctly and it dropping into the sea, half a mile out of the marina. So we had to go back for that.

We were having an amazing sail when all of a sudden we were stopped dead by a giant piece of plastic which got caught in the rudder and was attached to something in the sea.

I had to jump in to cut it free and untangle it from the rudder, not easy in a rolly sea with a big boat bouncing around on top of me. There was lots of plastic, it was twisted into thick rope. We pulled it all on board and stored it in the dinghy to dispose of when we got to shore.

That only delayed us by one hour would you believe. Shortly after we started sailing again we were visited by a pod of dolphins.

We then continued to a beautiful anchorage 10 miles away from Setubal that we decided to stay at for the night.

The only problem was it was super rolly so we had a few drink spillages during the evening. Still it was a lovely location, the sea looked like it was full of chalk. I think it was lime.

The next morning we sailed with just the jib at 7 knots all the way to Setubal, up the channel and around to the right in a place called Troia. A brilliant sail, we looked like we knew what we were doing. We literally sailed into the anchorage and dropped the anchor, so cool, the best anchorage so far, 50 metres from the beach and so flat it felt like we were on land. Especially as we had very rocky sleeps since Nick and Jen arrived due to the big storm.

The girls and the cook went ashore to get some supplies and got absolutely soaked coming back, even though they got a lift off a very friendly military man in his landrover who was at the naval base next to where we anchored.

BEFORE

AFTER

Such a lovely anchorage, one other boat and no one else as the holidays were all over. Even so it was still warm enough to go for a swim.

Nick helped me clean the scum line off the boat. One of the reasons he's welcome on the boat anytime.

We got the ferry over to Setubal, a busy fishing town which used to be famous for it's sardine factories. I met squidward's father.

Nick and Jen have now left us. A very eventful week. Jenny hammered us all at hearts. She is the queen of pub games.

It's really sad when people leave. They'll be back, plenty more boat jobs to do.

We are now sitting in this great anchorage again off Troia waiting for the 9m waves to go away so we can go to Lagos.
